Gutted that Chris Eccleston didn’t appear in the 50th anniversary? So am I, but I’m happy to report he made a brief return for a far nobler occasion; a wedding! Two doctor who fans, Eccleston kindly sent a clip of himself congratulating them in character. He opens the video with familiar snark, lamenting his lack of invite to the wedding “typical of you apes, isn’t it?” Luckily, the Time Lord’s soft side shows in the end, wishing Blaine and Liam a happy day “my two hearts are beating for you as one…I won’t be there in the blue box, but I will be there in spirit.”
I was really refreshing to see the Ninth Doctor return. I’d actually forgotten how salty he could be! Given Eccleston’s bumpy history with Who after his departure, it was lovely to see him embracing the character again for the sake of the fans.
