You’ve probably seen the recent trailer for Matthew Vaughan’s next spy blockbuster Kingsman: The Golden Circle. If not, have a look here! Featuring more gadgets and even a cyborg henchman, the sequel promises to be everything its predecessor was and more. In addition, 20th Century Fox has released a featurette which explains the plot in more detail.

The sequel will feature the Statesman, American counterparts to the Kingsmen. Due to the events of the previous film, the Kingsman likely need all the help they can get! While the classy Kingsman resemble Ian Fleming tradition of spies, their American colleagues seem closer to Clint Eastwood in aesthetic. Wearing stetsons and apparently including Wes-44 revolvers and bullwhips among their arsenal, the Statesman strongly recall the Old West. In keeping with this, hard liquour seems to be a strong theme with the organization, showing their headquarters located beneath a distillery. Additionally, stateman operatives have names like Jack Daniels and Tequila, implying this theme plays a part in the codenames as opposed to the Arthurian naming scheme of the Kingsmen.

The featurette confirms this, showing that the film. The featurette rounds up by promoting Old Forester Statesman Bourbon, which plays a role in the film’s story. Spies have traditionally been heavy drinkers, with James Bond putting away a frankly worrying amount in each novel. Consequently, the whiskey theme may be something of an inside choke on Vaughan’s part. Alternatively, the whiskey theme may simply be consistent with the cowboy image used by the Statesmen. In any case, I’m not a whiskey drinker, but I’ll considering buying a bottle of Old Forester if it means more Kingsman films!
