On Thursday morning, Lauren Graham and Anthony Anderson announced the nominations for the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards. Unsurprisingly, Game of Thrones has taken the lead with 23 nominations, the most of any drama series this year.
The nominations include:
- Outstanding Drama Series
- Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series – Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey and Maisie Williams
- Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series – Peter Dinklage and Kit Harrington
- Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series – Max von Sydow (Three-Eyed Raven)
- Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series – David Benioff, D.B. Weiss
- Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series – Miguel Sapochnik and Jack Bender
In addition, a bulk of the nominations comes from the behind the scenes. This comes as no surprise after ‘The Battle of the Bastards’:

Meanwhile, away from Twitter, Kit Harington released a statement, where he expressed his happiness about his first Emmy nomination…
“It is a serious understatement to say that I am somewhat stunned. For my work on Game of Thrones to be recognized in this way is an emotional moment for me. I could not be more humbled.”
Emmy Legacy
Unlike last year, the show just missed out on their record of 24 nominations. 2015 saw Game of Thrones won twelve awards and set a new record for most Emmy wins by a series in a single year. As a result, it replaced the previous holder, The West Wing, which achieved nine wins. The 23 nominations boosted HBO’s nomination list to a total of 94.
Jimmy Kimmel will host the ceremony on Sunday, September 18.
