Disney have announced a fifth Indiana Jones film today, with Steven Spielberg returning to direct and Harrison Ford set to star.

The film will be released July 19, 2019, and Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will serve as producers.

“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios in a press release. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

The adventure series Indiana Jones is legendary in cinema, having made over $2 billion dollars across its four instalments already. Though not entirely unexpected – Disney have been hinting at this prospect for a while now – there are lingering worries about Harrison Ford‘s health going into a starring role like this. The star injured himself filming Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and there’s little doubt this movie will be even more physical.

It is a good sign, though, that Spielberg is back working with Ford. The last Indiana Jones film, Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, was ill-received, so this allows the pair to end their time with the character on better terms. Should this do well, it’s doubtful it will be the last we’ll see of Indy, but it’s almost certainly the last time Ford will play the archaeologist.
