Walt Disney Pictures has released a short teaser for Alice Through the Looking Glass. The film is a sequel to the 2010 film Alice in Wonderland, directed by Tim Burton and written by Linda Woolverton. Although Woolverton has returned to write, Burton is merely producer for the latest instalment, while the director position has been taken by James Bobin.
The film is apparently six months after the previous film, after Alice has set off for China. As in Carroll‘s original, Alice returns to Wonderland through a mirror and re-encounters many of her old friends. Johnny Depp has been confirmed to return as the Mad Hatter, while Rhys Ifans will be introduced as the Hatter’s father in the movie.
Most interestingly, Sacha Baron Cohen has been cast as the central villain, Time. The trailer doesn’t give away much, merely showing Alice falling into Wonderland wearing colourful clothing, likely from her travels in China.
Alice Through The Looking Glass is slated for a 2016 release.
