With a rather spotty week of leaks and cover ups, the newest character for Street Fighter V has been announced at Brazil Game Show. This new character comes as the latest of the four newcomers, and her name is Laura Matsuda. Hailing from Brazil, Laura uses her own unique fighting style known as Matsuda Jiu-Jitsu.
When the trailer originally leaked for Laura, many fans were very confused as to what exactly her character was. Thanks to the Capcom blog, we can now confirm she is a grappler, with a projectile. In fact she will be the first grappler character in Street Fighter history to use a projectile, which will no doubt change her play style drastically from regular grapplers. Laura’s fighting style is described as “up close and personal” and with her special attacks, we can see why.
Her V-Skill is called Linear Movement and will move her in the corresponding direction on your button presses, getting her in and out of the opponent’s range at will. Laura’s V-Trigger is called Spark Show and sends Laura into an electric state. This state allows her thunder clap projectile to travel further, dealing more stun on her attacks and grabs, and speeds up her linear movements.
As the newcomer list is filling up, Laura is a perfect addition to the franchise. While we already have a number of grappler characters in the the game, Laura almost feels like a retaliation to everything we know about these fighters. They are usually large, bulking people who attack slowly, but Laura is quick and nimble, even with a projectile up her sleeve. With only two more characters left to be revealed, the roster is starting to feel complete.
Street Fighter V releases spring 2015 for PS4 and PC.
