It’s no mystery that Game of Thrones is heading into uncharted waters beyond the A Song of Ice and Fire book series with season six as the show approaches its end. However, a statement by George R. R. Martin at a HBO after party hints that there may be something to tide us over between the end of the show and the conclusion of the books. He said, “There will be a movie but I will not be involved… I have too much to do… I have two more books to finish and I still have so much to do… I am such a slow writer and the fans get upset that I don’t write faster.”
A production source claims that the movie may dip into the past and examine now deceased characters such as Catelyn Stark and Oberyn Martell. If, of course, these statements are to be believed, as Martin has since denied knowledge of any film on his personal blog.
In any case, David Benioff has ruled out extending the series to 10 seasons, stating “we know what the end is and we’re rapidly approaching it.” In any case, once the series ends, demands for more content will no doubt prove obstinate.
