Once again, our wee isle has proven to be mightier than our size would indicate. After JJ Abrams did some filming for a part of The Force Awakens on Skellig Michael island in the not too distant past, Entertainment Weekly have reported that the Star Wars crew have returned to the southern island once more to kick off filming for Episode VIII.
Initially the impression was that Star Wars: The Force Awakens was undergoing some reshoots on the island, but it’s come to light this isn’t the case. Wisely, shooting of any of the now three ongoing Star Wars films is simply codenamed “Star Wars”, so it’s difficult to know who’s shooting what and where.
However, director Rian Johnson has for sure begun making Episode VIII a reality and whatever exactly Abrams shot in Skellig Michael, it’s important enough that the story must return there. As if we weren’t already excited!
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in cinemas December 17, while Star Wars: Episode VIII is slotted for a 2017 release.
