Disney Animator Robb Pratt Releases Flash Gordon Short
Disney animator and artist behind Pocahontas and Kim Possible, Robb Pratt, has released a traditionally animated Flash Gordon short. This isn’t the first time he’s treated DC fans with some classic animation; you may remember the 2011 fan short ‘Superman Classic‘ and its sequel ‘Superman Classic: Bizarro‘ which were very well received by fans and critics alike.
Just like the first two shorts, ‘Flash Gordon Classic’ was animated on paper and supplemented with a few digital tricks. The short is a remake of ‘The Tunnel of Terror’, which is the second episode from the 1936 Flash Gordon show. The result is fantastic and beautifully crafted, with some of the industry’s biggest names lending their voices to the project.
Eric Johnson (Smallville) reprises his role as 2007’s Flash Gordon, Joe Whyte (Tarzan) as Dr. Zarkov, G.K. Bowes (Bleach: Memories of Nobody) as Dale Arden, John Newton (Superman Classic) takes a turn as the iconic Ming the Merciless and Jennifer Newton (Superman Classic) as Princess Aura.
The short was co-written by Irishman Emmet O’Brien, of Cork Comic Imprint Turncoat Press. It’s reminiscent of some of our favourite childhood shows, like Batman: The Animated Series. If you’re looking for a mid-week nostalgia trip, check out the video below:
