VIZ Media releases limited edition RANMA ½ Blu-Ray
A truly nostalgic kick for anime fans everywhere, VIZ Media are releasing what can only be called a pure piece of anime history RANMA ½. This is the third instalment of the limited edition Blu-Ray bow sets to be released and will contain episodes 47 – 69 of the renowned gender-bending martial arts comedy series ($54.97).
RANMA ½ follows Ranma Saotome a young boy who on a martial arts training mission to China takes an unintentional dip in a cursed spring which changes Ranma from a young boy to a young girl – every single time he is splashed with cold water. Luckily for him hot water will reverse the effects until it all happens again.
In this particular box set things aren’t settles at the Tendo Dojo and it makes things difficult for Ranma when he ends hitting his head and falling into water and transforming into a girl, now even when he is back as a boy he still thinks he is a little girl! All is against Ranma is this box set, will he snap out of it and master new legendary techniques in order to vanquish his foes?
Split across three discs the Blu-Ray set is truly celebrating the original manga by Rumiko Takahashi who we all know to be one of the world’s leading manga creators with titles like RANMA ½, Maison Ikkoku, Mermaid Saga and most notably Inuyasha. This home edition will be have the episodes for the first time in full 1080p HD with the original uncropped 4:3 aspect ratio while also having a standard definition available for $44.82.
The set is beautifully packaged which has been illustrated by Rumiko Takahashi and comes with a 32-page booklet containing a full episode guide and a full colour collectable RANMA ½ art card. Both standard and Blu-Ray editions come with many dialogue options from original Japanese with English subtitles or the dubbed English audio. What is most notable in this set is the special feature of “We Love Ranma Part 3 – The Appeal of Ranma 1/2” it being the next part of the continuing series of intuitive interviews following the heritage and impact that this anime had.
