Ireland’s Brightest Sparks Compete for €25,000 Prize Fund at Web Summit

Irelands brightest stars are invited to compete in the 4th  year of  ESB Spark of Genius at this years Web Summit with a prize fund of €25,000.
The award is to focus on high potential start ups and is open to any Irish start up that has been in operation for less than three years and has received fewer than €1m in funding to date. The entrants will be judged on the uniqueness of their idea, their level of development thus far and their potential for future growth.
“We have seen some amazing ideas brought to life by hugely talented people since the inception of this award and are delighted that ESB is on board once again as the partner,” said CEO and founder of The Web Summit, Paddy Cosgrave.
Over 20,000 people will attend Web Summit this year. Keynote speakers include Peter Thiel, Paypal founder, ‘Entourage’ actor and founder of Shift.com, Adrian Grenier, the founder of Dropbox, Drew Houston, Former CEO of Apple, John Sculley and CEO of Evernote Phil Libin.the founder of Dropbox, Drew Houston, Former CEO of Apple, John Sculley and CEO of Evernote Phil Libin.

Applications are open from today www.summitdublin.com/startups/spark-of-genius until Friday August 29th. A shortlist of 30 finalists will be announced on September 3rd with all contestants pitching their business plans to the panel of judges at Base Camp on September 17th with the three finalists announced at the end of the day. The winner of the ESB Spark of Genius will be announced at Web Summit on November 4th in the RDS.
After the application process finishes on Friday, 29 August, 30 finalists will be announced on 3 September. Those finalists will then again face a judging panel, who will whittle the 30 down to three on 17 September.
The final overall winner will be revealed to a worldwide audience at The Summit in Dublin on 4 November.
