Kindly is an app developed by Jordan Walker that allows users to anonymously talk to someone in need of support without feeling guilty or ashamed.  It promises to connect users with ” a mobile network of compassionate and helpful listeners” And although it probably can only be that virtual ear for your minor worries it is a step in the right direction for anyone who needs someone to talk to even if it is for a few minutes.
The app was created by Jordan Walker after going through a bit of a rough patch himself. He found it quite difficult to talk to you and came up with this idea to help others who are in a similar situation.
screen568x568With this app, which only launched a couple of weeks ago, users can share or receive short conversation prompts which then uses an algorithm to try and match that person with another who might be a good listener.
At the moment it has quite a small community as it is still in its early days, but the next phase of the app plans to bring in experts and professions. Currently they are recruiting psychology students.Walker has also advised that there will be limits to what the app does and what it can handle. When you first open the app, a message pops up in the app stressing three things: It is not a crisis hotline, it is not intended to help users to find love and it doesn’t connect you with therapists.
“This app is not intended to be a suicide hotline,” Walker says emphatically. “We need to provide the right resources to let them know where to go if they are needing those services.”
If Kindly is not the app for you there are certainly plenty more that provide a space for people to talk anonymously.  7 Cups of Tea connects users with anonymous “active listeners” online and social networks like Whisper aims to let users share secrets online and engage in private messaging.
This is a fantastic idea from Walker and it really shows that there is plenty of options available for people who are afraid to talk to someone about their worries.
