What you are looking at is merely the first phase for what we hope will one of the best and most loved sites in all of the land!
What you’re looking at there is the very first look for The Arcade or as I penned it back then ‘the @rcade’, because that made it look cool and trendy and wasn’t confusing or anything. At the time I was still getting used to twitter and that @rcade led to some big confusion with another twitter handle! It’s four years ago that this whole thing started, when I was facing the dismal abyss of unemployment, the bubble of graduate work had burst, college experience was over and I wanted to focus my energy on something! I had an idea and I had a friend with the experience, skill and ability to put up with me and together Rebekah and I started this whole thing!
I had no idea it would go on to last four years and explode into YouTube videos, podcasts, a Convention and a wonderful community.
Present
Twenty writers, over 2,000 articles and a community that pushes every day to be our best. It’s four years old and I can’t believe it! Truthfully I didn’t think this would last as long, there are so many places on the Internet dedicated to comics or video games, Anime and music but we have carved out our own corner, our own space and our own voice and that’s down to you – that’s not said for the sake of just including you either. This place wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for our readers, if no one read, if no one cared or shared their thoughts with us then there wouldn’t be a point in keeping this going, so I just want to take this moment to thank you for your support.
I’ve spent all week reflecting on this side project and how much it’s changed my life – it was just meant to be something I did to occupy my time but it’s become one of the most important things in my life. The first and last thing I do each day is check my e-mail, check the pending posts and catch up with the writers, the work that goes into keeping the site up to date not just with content but good, strong and smart content is shared by all of us here. It’s long winded e-mails, sarcastic text messages, one word facebook posts and a team of some unbelievably giving and talent people that keep the place ticking over so it goes without saying I owe each and every one of them my heartfelt respect, appreciation and thanks.
Future
Where to next? I have my plans and there is something coming in the very near future and I hope we’ll have your support as the Arcade shuffles on into it’s future. I don’t want to prattle on too much but I just want to reiterate my thanks to the readers and the staff.
