Since the announcement of The Last of Us film last week, many fans have been asking if the film would be a new story set in the same world with new characters or an adaptation of the game itself. Well Neil Druckmann (creator of The Last of Us) has confirmed that it will indeed be an adaptation of the game with IGN during the Video Game Bafta Awards. Neil Druckmann spoke out on the matter stating “It’s an adaptation of the story of The Last of Us, as far as where we go and how we make it fit into a film, how it takes into account the unique properties of film… We’re not sure yet. We’re only just scratching the surface.”
When asked about the rumors of a sequel to The Last of Us Druckmann said “We don’t know yet, we’re still trying to figure it out. We’re brainstorming some stuff, so we’ll see where that goes.“
Now whenever any video game is brought into the eyes of the camera, many people get worried and it’s not without reason (Super Mario Bros.). I myself have only ever seen one good video game movie (Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva, seriously watch it, its great) and seeing as The Last of Us already has such a massive scale and cinematic feeling, really I don’t see any point in turning it into a movie at all at this point.
