Superman Artist Al Plastino dies

Al Plastino, the co-creator of Supergirl (alongside OttoBinder) has passed away aged 91. The artist is probably best known for his work on the Superman comics but was also a writer, colourist and editor. His career in comics began before World War II but his put on hold after being drafted into the US Army. Afterwards he returned and sought a career in comics once again after he showed his work on Superman to DC.

Plastino claimed his pride and joy was Superman #168 which featured President John F Kennedy – the issue was put on hold due to the assassination. In it Superman turned to JFK to help him with promote the national physical fitness program and Kal-El even disclosed his secret identity to the president.
