SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY SUPERHEROES – COMIC BOOK DESIGN WORKSHOP WITH JOHANNA SCHMEER

Designer Johanna Schmeer will lead a one-day workshop that uses the art and culture of Manga to explore what might happen in the event of a synthetic biology disaster. Johanna has worked with scientists to come up with plausible ‘bioerror’ scenarios, where synthetic biology has gone horribly wrong. Inspired by the history of popular culture’s response to technological disasters, participants will design and create narratives for superheros in this ‘post-bioerror’ world.
This is a hands-on workshop, where you will draw and design your superhero using a range of materials, and create a narrative for your character as you explore what a future after a synbio disaster might look like.
