Tens of thousands of PS3’s seized in the Netherlands by Customs

Following LG winning a preliminary injunction against Sony in a patent battle European customs officers were ordered to seize shipments of Playstation 3 consoles. All new PS3’s have to be confiscated as they are imported into Europe for at least 10 days.
This is not seen to be a problem as Sony and computer game retailers generally have 2 to 3 weeks worth of the consoles in stock, but if this blockade were to be extended we might soon see a distinct lack of Playstation 3 consoles available in stores across the continent. Tens of thousands of consoles were seized last week in the Netherlands as a result of the ongoing dispute in which Sony alledgedly infringed use of Blu-ray technology belonging to LG.

Needless to say Sony are trying desperately to get the ban lifted, but just as they have the right to appeal to the European patents office LG could apply to the same office to have the ban extended, or alternatively to have the consoles destroyed, the latter being less likely to pass than the first. If Sony is found to have infringed on LG patents it could be forced to compensate the company for every single PS3 sold to date – a number that was reported to have been close to 50 million sold worldwide in December…. Ouch!

Devil May Cry – The Movie

Capcom has been eager to exploit the ‘Devil May Cry’ series across various platforms for some time now, including comicbooks, novels, collectible statues, action figures and it’s own anime series. Next on their list appears to be a feature length film. Screen Gems – the hollywood studio responsible for bringing us the Resident Evil movies – has recently purchased feature film rights to the hit video game series ‘Devil May Cry’, with Kyle Ward, the guy writing the Kane and Lynch screenplay, being hired to write the script. So what should we be expecting? It’s too early to tell, but if the manner in which the Resident Evil films deviated from the video game series is anything to go by we’re willing to bet that Screen Gems won’t be afraid to put their own twist on Dante and his associates.

Kylie dances her virtual butt off!

Kylie Minogue’s European tour is sponsored by Microsoft Kinect and Dance Central, thus a kinect unit inspired by the Australian pop singer and styled after her most recent album ‘Aphrodite’, decorated with 6,000 Swarowsky Elements crystals valued at over $1200. It isn’t for sale, however, and instead could be won through a contest in which one had to simply upload a video of themselves dancing along to Kylie’s ‘Can’t get you outta my head’ on Dance Central. Any fans attending her European tour will alledgedly be able to play along to Kylie’s songs on Dance Central at concert venues.

Kylie is set to be performing in the O2 arena Dublin on the 22nd and 23rd of March.
(Guess where our Editor will be on the 23rd… don’t tell him we told you that though because he might not notice this…. :P)

Oh I noticed alright! Turn the volume up and enjoy this smash hit from Kylie’s latest album!

3DS Sales are on fire!

The Nintendo 3DS was released in Japan earlier this week, and in it’s first week it has already sold 374,764 out of the 400,000 available across the country. It’s also rather impressive to note that having been released on a Saturday it’s first week was also only 2 days long! The best selling 3DS game thus far has been Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, selling just under 120,000 units in this time, followed by Nintendogs and cats with only half this number. Despite this number the 3DS Professor Layton was Japan’s second best selling game of the week, just falling short of sales against the PSP’s SD Gundam G Generation World. A new Super Mario game has also been announced for the 3DS, as well as the news that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is set to be gracing our screens in June of this year. The 3DS is off to a good start and things look as though they’re only going to get better!
