Earlier this week Paul Thomas Anderson‘s next film, Phantom Thread, got a trailer. It’s a drama about a confirmed bachelor dressmaker who falls in love with a woman. Daniel Day-Lewis is set to star in the film, which will be his second collaboration with the director after There Will Be Blood.
Daniel Day-Lewis‘ presence in a film is an appeal by itself. Especially in this case, as he recently announced that this would be his final film role. It’s not the first time he has retired from acting; in the 90s he quit acting and spent some time as an apprentice shoemaker in Italy, but eventually he came back.
Still, this time it seems he’s serious. And it looks like it might be the final brooch to a great career, especially considering how selective he is. On the other hand, I wonder if this will make him the first actor to win four Best Actor Oscars.
While the trailer says it’s set to release at Christmas, it presumably won’t be released on these shores until 2018.
