It looks like CBS could be working on a new Star Trek  spin-off starring Starfleet’s first Klingon officer, Worf, in this new interview with Michael Dorn on Inverse

Now that the Star Trek Universe is expanding rapidly, it could be the perfect time for a Klingon spin-off.

“This is, I think, perfectly timed and placed, […]You’re not stepping on anybody’s toes, and I always thought the Klingon Empire was a great empire to write about because it’s Shakespearean.”

“The Klingon Empire has had to evolve and change and they don’t like that and they’re fighting it every step of the way, […] Just like our world now is becoming a global world where it’s not just like, ‘Oh we’re Californians and that’s all that really matters.’ We’re talking about something here and it affects China.”

Discovery or Generations?

At this stage, it looks like the show will be more along the lines of Generations, with Worf manning a Klingon vessel rather than a Starfleet ship. This would possibly give it the air of a throwback, given that each episode is self-contained and would say something. While this new show would deviate away from Star Trek Discovery, Michael Dorn admitted that the development of Star Trek: Discovery (now entering its second season) worried him. He thought that the Worf series might not be made. However, with the arrival of the Star Trek series and the expansion of the franchise focusing on Jean-Luc Picard, Dorn has hope.

Dorn himself has been campaigning for the series for a while with fans rallying around him by launching the #WeWantWorf hashtag.

Fans may wonder if the Picard show could be used as a launching pad for a Worf spinoff, with a possible appearance by the Klingon. Dorn admits that this would not be a cameo role though.

“I’m only interested in it if it’s something really interesting; if the character was a major part of the franchise or whatever the show is,” he says. “He’s not just going to show up, beat somebody up, and then go home.”

Time will tell what lies in store for the Star Trek expansion. Do you want to see a Worf series? Let us know what you think in the comments!
