Easily one of the strangest news stories making the rounds in the past few weeks, is that Mel Gibson has been approached to direct Suicide Squad 2. Yes, that Mel Gibson.
Even stranger still it appears this story may actually be true. Well, sort of.
During a brief Oscar’s red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight, the road warrior himself had this to say about potentially directing the film:
“I don’t know. I just met some guys about some story points. It’s not a done deal or anything but it’s just fun to shoot the bull you know? When it comes to a story. I love doing it. And if we can elevate any kind of concept it’s good.”
While this seems like somewhat of a non-committal answer, a seasoned Hollywood veteran like Mel Gibson is never going to give away major news in a manner such as this. And who would blame him for giving like or nothing away given the earning potential a project like this with Warner Brothers would present to him?
With recent directorial strife plaguing the production of The Batman, another of Warner Brothers major DC movie properties, I would imagine Warner Brothers would be eager to have Mel Gibson sign on as quickly as possible. Only time will tell I guess.
Suicide Squad 2 is tentatively slated for release on 1st November 2019.
