During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet.

Who’d have thought that one paragraph in the opening crawl of A New Hope in 1977 would serve as the premise for upcoming flick Rogue One, 39 years later!

Starring Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk and Forest Whitaker, it was recently announced that the movie was going to need re-shoots to lighten the mood and provide better character clarity.

It has now come to light that Tony Gilroy, who co-wrote the excellent Bourne trilogy, has been recruited to consult on any rewrites needed. He has worked closely with Lucasfilm president’s Kathleen Kennedy‘s husband on the Bourne series, and has reportedly helped on previous Star War‘s projects as well.

At this point, it’s unclear how extensive the re-shoots are. Whilst Disney and Lucasfilm are, of course, downplaying the rumours, it certainly seems as though they’re calling in the cavalry. Whilst it’s reassuring to know that a writer of Gilroy‘s pedigree is now involved, it’s worrying that they needed him in the first place.

Or perhaps the unbridled passion of Star Wars fans is throwing a lot of fuel on to what is actually a very small fire. We’ll have to wait until December to find out.
