Fullmetal Alchemist, one of the most critically acclaimed anime ever, is getting a live action movie. CrunchyRoll broke the news, by way of a Twitter post.
Heading for a Summer 2017 release, Fumihiko Sori, director of 2012’s Dragon Age anime movie, will direct. The movie will star Yamada Roysuke in the lead role Edward Elric. Roysuke is a member of the popular idol group Hey!Say!JUMP.
Both the anime and the manga ended in 2010, but the series has a huge fanbase around the world. The series follows the Elric brothers, Edward and Alphonse, as they try and find a philosopher’s stone to restore their bodies after a transmutation spell goes awry. The anime is well-respected for its themes of body magic and family tragedy. Seeing the real life Elric brothers is enough to turn any casual fan of FMA into a full blown fan boy.
