It’s a cold, snowy day here in Ireland this morning. What better way to warm up than with some classic thrash metal? Our track of the day today is the masters, Slayer, with ‘Blood Red’, from Seasons In The Abyss!
Despite following the blistering ‘War Ensemble’, ‘Blood Red’ is a little more mid-paced, a little less violent. The main riff provides a bouncy groove that holds the tempo through both the verse and chorus, with the band firing on all cylinders to the rhythms of the mighty Dave Lombardo. Even the leads, one of Slayer’s weaker aspects, have a greater singability to them with Jeff Hannemann and Kerry King trading licks. All of this is capped off by one of Tom Araya‘s most commanding performances – Seasons In The Abyss may very well be the band’s finest hour and this track is no exception to that!
