Death Note is the award winning supernatural thriller manga series about a young man obsessed with the ‘God’ like powers he wields after stumbling upon a book that allows him to kill. The series has sold over 30 million copies and been adapted for anime and live-action incarnations.

The Death Note movie trilogy is in early stages of a reboot by Warner Bros. for western cinema and it seems the production team are aiming for mature ratings.

Speaking to Collider.com, Roy Lee, producer for the film addressed the matter of the film’s target audience assuring fans that the adaptation would be for mature viewers:

“It’s definitely for adults. It is zero chance it will be below an R-rating.”

With the continued success of Deadpool and it’s R-rating, it’s clear that fans aren’t put off by mature ratings, even appreciating the steps to remain true/accurate to source material.

While the production hasn’t kicked off yet, several actors including Nat Wolff and Margaret Qualley and the director, Adam Wingard, are in place and it’s hoped that work will begin later this year.
