Award season is truly under way and with that this week saw the Academy Award nominations released for the upcoming 88th annual Oscars. The anime world is back in the spotlight with Studio Ghibli’s When Marnie Was There among the nominated features.
A serious moment for studio Ghibli as this is the first feature that Ghibli have made without any direct involvement from Hayao Miyazaki or Isao Takahata.
When Marnie Was There has some stiff contenders in its nominated category with Anomalisa, Shaun the Sheep Movie, Boy and the World and of course Inside Out. The awards will be presented on February 8 2016 at the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Centre.
