The Golden Globes! A place where film and TV meet and compete for attention. Last nights events saw some well deserved winners with Richard Linklater snatching up the Best Director award for Boyhood (which also won Best Drama and Best Supporting Actress for Patricia Arquette). Birdman took home Best Screenplay and The Dark Knight himself, Michael Keaton, won Best Actor (Drama). Here’s hoping he gets that Oscar nomination.
Golden-Globes-200x200Breaking Bad dominated the Globes in recent years but with the series now ended we saw some new winners, with Kevin Spacey winning Best Actor in a TV Series (Drama) for House of Cards and The Affair, a new series on Showtime, winning Best Series.
The real winners last night were Tina Fey and Amy Poehler with their amazing opening monologue. Their quip about George Clooney left me in stitches. And how they referred to their audience as “a bunch of despicable, spoiled, minimally talented brats…” was priceless. Of course, there were some gags about North Korea. But the highlight of their monologue came when they poked fun of Bill Cosby. I’ll miss them hosting next year.
