Nickelodeon have announced a worldwide open call to bring forth pitches from creative minds with a desire to see their animated ideas come to life. The Nickelodeon Animated Shorts programme is an initiative to generate an influx of fresh concepts into their programming by opening the floodgates to all talented writers and artists.
The current guidelines state that the shorts will need to be comedic in tone and have a strong reliance on the interactions of the characters to anchor the story. It is stated that successful candidates will be given ample support to produce their short to the quality of Nickelodeons animation standards.
As it stands, Final pitches are to be two minutes maximum and should be done in the form by a storyboard detailing the story. The target audience as expected will be young children and the content of the short should be considered in accordance with the age range of this demographic. Winning shorts will air on Nick Junior or early morning on Nickelodeon. Previous winners have gone on to develop full series for Nickelodeon that are either on television currently or waiting to be brought into their lineup. The Animated Shorts programme will see more details released on January 12, 2015.
