Remember that wonderful 1994 cartoon, The Tick? It was immensely enjoyable and reminded you a little Earthworm Jim. It had crazy characters and situations and some rather adult humour – that would always go over the head of children and Drax the Destroyer. Do you remember its live action adaptation from 2001? Not many people do.  It only lasted 9 episodes. But take it from me, it is well worth a watch. Patrick Warburton was wonderful and looked the part. And it didn’t resemble the cartoon at all.  It was purely an adult show. One episode included this fantastic piece of writing:

Everyone is thrilled that the Immortal, the famous superhero, is coming to town. He dies while having sex with Captain Liberty and the group is faced with the challenge of covering up the debacle. Batmanuel impersonates the Immortal while the Tick and Arthur try to put the body back in his hotel to make it look like he died in his sleep. The Tick must grapple with the realization that everyone dies (rather than just already dead people as he believed).

There are now plans to reboot the The Tick for a new audience and apparently it will be darker than previous incarnations, Slashfilm reports. The show will air on Amazon but there has been no release date announced as of yet.

Warburton did say:

“I love The Tick. I’d love to do it again. I never would have thought I’d have the opportunity to do this again. I think it would be a blast to do it again. We’ll see what happens. One thing about The Tick, he is an insane character. I guess he doesn’t have to be 29 years-old like Thor, I guess. He’ll be 50 battling evil. I’d love to see what Ben Edlund’s new vision for it is. I think it will be different. Perhaps a little darker and a little edgier. We’ll see what happens.”

Ben Edlund is the creator of The Tick and he will be writing and producing the new series. In the comic book the Tick is a more damaged and disturbing character than the goofy, dimwitted persona we’ve previously seen in either the animation or live-action. Expect to see some very dark humor,

This is one of the most surprising and exciting revival new pieces to come out and I look forward to see what they come up with. Will you be watching it when it’s released?
