Collateral Comics bring you ComicJam48. A wicked event that gives back to the comics community at large.
Taking place at the start of September between Friday the 5th and Sunday the 7th in the Generator Hostel in Smithfield this will be the first ComicJam48 event and we aim to have some great local guests offering some of the sharpest advice you could ever ask for.
ComicJam48 aim is to bring together young and talented artists and writers and provide them with a platform to create small, quality comics in a high pressure environment.
The comics will then be published in an anthology and hosted online. The creators will be given a great opportunity to meet and work with other like minded people and will learn invaluable experience of working on a tight schedule.
So how does it work? ComicJam48 have been so generous and provide the location, food, t-shirts and a theme.
At each weekend a certain amount of tickets will be allocated for the writers and a certain amount of artists. The purpose of this is to allow a team of two artists and one writer to be assembled.
The Jam will start on the Friday evening and that is when the theme of the event will be decided and the teams will be formed. Each of these teams is given a short amount of time to have an action plan and then can discuss their plans over a few drinks.
ComicJam48 will endeavour to have industry professionals come by to mentor and advise each team and maybe give a short talk on making comics and other related topics.
Do you want to make comics? Do you want to have something published, with your name on it? Do you want to meet the best and brightest up-and-comers in the industry? Well then of course this is worth your time.
ComicJam48’s goal is to make their event a stepping stone. Before you can pitch to the likes of Marvel, DC, Darkhorse and so on, you need a body of work. The Jam is the way to do that. It is a unique experience that will teach you teamwork, and work ethic you need to succeed.
Collateral Comics have a strong and admirable want to foster the indie comic community in Ireland and to watch it grow.
