In a recent interview, William Shatner aka Captain Kirk in the original Star Trek TV series as well as the movie spinoffs from his own time and that of Captain Picard’s, has spoken out about how he would like to see a return of the Trek that concerned itself more with philosophy, lore and stories as opposed to big effects and CGi.
‘JJ Abrams has found the key to getting a large audience into the movie theatre, and that’s the ride…So you get a lot of the CGI effects, which is the epic movie-making aspect of today.
‘That’s in order to get you into the theatre, because the majesty of the movie is shown by the large screen. But when you get into the small screen, you need stories – entertaining, interesting, vital stories.’
He went on to me say that the Trek ‘stirs young people into wanting to be connected with science.’.
Could we see Trek return to our small screens some time soon? After Enterprise left a lot of fans down, perhaps it might still be too soon? If it did come back when/where would it work? After Janeway and the return of Voyager? Before Picard took command of the Enterprise? What do you think?
