Luc Besson has  gone from talking about retirement for the last couple of years to announcing he will be adapting the French Sci-Fi comic Valérian and Laureline to the big screen. Originally created by Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mezieres in 1967. The Comic follows Valérian a spatio-temporal agent, and his companion, Laureline as the have adventures across space and time.

It’s not exactly a shot from left field as Luc Besson is no stranger to Sci-Fi (The Fifth Element ) or Action (The Transporter). He also seem to be a big fan of the series having brought Mezieres in as a conceptual designer on the Fifth Element. Besson has been talking about doing what he called “The Fifth Element to the power of ten” since 2010, who knows maybe he has been working on this since then.

Other projects he is working on include the comedy drama Malavita with Robert De Niro and  Michelle Pfeiffer and an untitled action thriller with Angelina Jolie earmarked for 2013.
