Coming to a PlayStation 3 and Xbox360 near you on June 8th, is ‘Naughty Bear’ and is brought to us by the gang over at Artificial Mind and Movement. Don’t worry this isn’t some cutesy wutesy game where you plank your four year old in front of the television and they learn their colours and their ABC’s, oh no ‘Naughty Bear’ is game for all those of us with a lust for deep brooding characters, blood and guts and mind shattering violence… except the protagonist is a teddy bear stuffed with feathers and cotton and his enemies are… also teddy bears… stuffed with cotton and feathers! If they are going to sneak gratuitous violence into our video games then they might as well try making it as a cute as possible!
The player will take on the role of Naughty Bear, a somewhat dishevelled and ragged little teddy bear who has a penchant for getting into trouble with all the other little bears and because of his bold behaviour the other bears don’t really like the mischievous rascal. When all the bears get invited to a party on the island, Naughty Bear is the only one who is not asked to attend because the other bears don’t trust him to behave himself. The troublemaker decides to go anyway and even brings a present to show that he can be nice sometimes but when the other bears see him, they laugh at his present and force him to leave, broken and humiliated. At home, the little bear finally snaps and his inner sociopath is fully released as he sharpens his machete and packs enough ammunition into his fuzzy bear pockets to take down an army. Turning his gun and blade on the other bears, hell hath no fury like a Naughty Bear scorned.
‘Naughty Bear’ will have both a single player and multi-player mode. In single player you will control Naughty Bear in a sandbox style world and from early footage released, your objective will be lure specific targets to their doom using various abilities and equipment. With over thirty environments to explore and an arsenal of weapons that makes Hitman look like a girl scout, it seems there will be multiple ways to take out your targets. Originally we feared ‘Naughty Bear’ may be something like ‘Fairy Tale Fight’s where you took on the role of Red Riding Hood and various other fairy tale characters and went on a rampaging bloody massacre and was altogether quite boring and badly made – our fears have been put at ease though as ‘Naughty Bear’ looks set to be something entirely different. With every kill, unique death and general mayhem and chaos caused by the fuzzy little psychopath you will earn Naughty Points, all of which are collected and displayed on leader boards as proof that you are the most evil little serial bear killer.
