Fresh from directing Sinister 2 (currently in cinemas), Irish director and screenwriter Ciarán Foy is set to jump into his next big film.

The Shee, which will be developed in partnership between US production company Blumhouse (Sinister 2, Insidious) and Irish production company ROADS Entertainment (After the Dance, Being AP) will dabble in Irish legends, based on and named after the mythological race know as the Shee.

In Irish mythology, the ‘sighe’ (anglicised as Shee) was another name for fairies. With male fairies being referred to as the ‘fear-shee’ and female fairies being referred to as the ‘ban-shee’. So it will be very interesting to see what direction Foy takes with this film.

From what we know so far, the story will take place in the 1960s and center around a troubled female character where, on a remote island, she must come to deal with her violent and tragic past.

The Shee is set to begin filming at the end of the year, with no release date set yet.

We’re going to have to watch Darby O’ Gill and the Little People while we wait for this to come out. Are you excited to see some Irish fairies on the big screen again? Let us know in the comments!
