At Least Five Years Left For Superhero Films According To Mark Millar
Mark Millar, writer of such renowned works as Marvel’s Civil War, Kick-Ass and Wanted, has something interesting to say about the superhero franchise. In an interview with IGN, Millar was prompted with a quote from Steven Spielberg that comic book movies are heading the same way as the Western.
Millar conceded that flops such as Iron Man 2 and Thor: Dark World had occurred, but maintained that the Golden Age of comic book movies is still in progress, with the Infinity Wars expected to be a financial success, and the trend to continue for at least another five years.
“I think [the superhero movie genre has] got at least another good five years. The stuff that’s coming up is so strong.”
Millar‘s statement on Infinity Wars’ expected profits raises a pertinent question: how far can this market bubble expand before it pops? What if Infinity Wars is rubbish? One major failure may be enough to bring the industry crashing down. Millar concludes the issue best, by saying, “The human race will go the way of the Western at some point; everything has to end at some point.”
