Marvel have confirmed that the universe that we know and love and the publisher has used since 1961 will be coming to an end. In their press conference for their Secret Wars event, Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso and Senior Vice President of Publishing and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort have stated that Secret Wars will see the Ultimate Universe and the Marvel Universe combine, ending both universe and creating one unified one.

The 8-issue series will begin in May, and will see the two universes use a single world called ‘Battleworld’ as a playing ground moving forward. Every aspect of the two universes will be building blocks for this world, and ‘Battleworld’ will have ‘legs’ moving forward.

As of now, it is unknown what characters will make it into the combined continuum, with Ultimate Spider-Man Miles Morales being the only remaining Ultimate Universe character still in print from the publisher. There will be an interactive map available online for ‘Battleworld’ that will allow fans to track which series’ will contain their favorite characters as it has also been confirmed that they’re ‘launching a wealth of new series, both ongoing and minis’ during Secret Wars. The Marvel Free Comic Book Day issue Secret Wars #0 will bring new readers up to speed on how events will begin in Secret Wars #1.
