South Park: The Stick Of Truth

South Park
I was expecting this to be somewhat like the old South Park game with a little make over. What I got is actually much, much more.
I really like the battle system they chose for this RPG-type game. I like the turn based idea but they have changed it slightly from your usual turn based games by enabling you to both heal and attack in one go and with certain characters you can heal, attack and attack again. This is so handy and well needed at points. I also like the way each character has their own role and attributes that actually help you outside of battle as well as in battle, and the side quests you can complete in order to get special summons that also help you in battle. The final thing for me, but also the most important thing, is the way the game is set out like an episode of South Park with just as much humor packed into it. This breaks the game up a good bit and makes it flow a lot better. The story line is ridiculous but hey, you are playing South Park!

Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor

Shadow Of Mordor
I picked this game up on a complete whim and boy, I was not disappointed!
This game has an epic amount of quests and side-quests to do, and can keep you entertained for hours. My favorite part of this whole game is the Orcs ranking and leveling up system. As well as all this there is a side story with the always psychotic Gollum that was quite fun. You can play the game however you like meaning you can run in and go ape crazy, or you can enter stealth mode and take your time not to get caught. There is so much to cover when it comes to Shadow of Mordor but unfortunately I don’t have the space to write all the positives. But between the stylish combat and graphics everything looks even better. On a final note the characters in this game are very well-developed even on the Orc side of things. This is usually a huge defining factor for me as I really feel that a character can make up 90% of the game, and Shadow of Mordor had great characters in spades.

Far Cry 4

Far Cry
The culture contained in this game alone is just wonderful.
The scenic views in Far Cry 4 are outstanding and breath-taking and the graphics really just add to the optical stimulation. The co-op is also very well-integrated into the game. By giving you the option to play online from the main menu it cuts out any loading screens later on in your game. I really loved every minute of this game and it is outstanding in terms of scale and accuracy of the culture you are in. I also really loved the main villain Pagan Ming. He was quite eccentric and incredibly bad ass, so much so he’s definitely one of my favorite villains of recent times. For me, he really made the game. There are many other cool things on offer such as hunting animals to piece together new equipment. This made it quite fun to hunt down the animals instead of aimlessly wandering around after them, or worse, being stampeded by them. I found myself taking screenshots every few seconds just out of pure amazement of the sight I was looking at. It has been a long time since I looked at a game and thought ‘Wow, they are really pushing the boundaries’ graphic wise, but Far Cry 4 really is proof of just that.

Final Fantasy X/X-2

FF
A much-needed update for an already beautiful game
I have played Final Fantasy X several times before, I still find myself amazed by everything that happens in the story, an epic-length adventure that never dips in entertainment. From the moment you start it just takes off and keeps on getting better and leaves you with a heart wrenching ending that is actually quite original and very touching. Then in X-2 you start a whole new journey, but have a chance to change the whole ending of X if you pay extremely close attention to what you are doing throughout the X-2 story. If you miss one single secret then you get the normal games ending, but trust me, you want to get the alternative ending. There is actually way too much to talk about with this game. There are tonnes of secrets, bonuses, side-quests and many other extras. But altogether Final Fantasy X has tremendous heart, amazingly well-developed characters and an extremely good storyline that stands the test of time.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!

Borderlands
The Pre-Sequel! lived up to all its hype for me.
To start with, there is a completely new combat system and brilliant new characters. There is also a crazy-ass complex story as always. Again there is a heap of dangerous and hilarious quests as well as dozens of side quests, which for me are usually the funnier quests. It also still contains everything we have come to love from Borderlands 1 & 2. The bridge this game fills in between the first and second installments is very fluid and natural, so you never got a feeling it was made just to make money. It also had new added gems such as zero gravity which gave me hours of fun just floating and bouncing around with my friends online. All in all. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! gets huge thumbs up from me. Now, if only they would make a Tiny Tina Borderlands game.
