**Update** It would seem this is a very clever hoax poster!

Blanchett super imposed of Jenna Coleman from her last trip back to jolly old London with the Doctor – looks like we got caught with our bloomers down but in the words of Mary herself “Never judge things by their appearance… even carpetbags. I’m sure I never do.“… this might spur Mr. Burton into a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious remake!

It is always a risk to make a film. However, to make a film that takes it’s cues from a film as iconic, as well-loved as Mary Poppins (1964) is bordering hubristic. Yet, Tim Burton is now widely tipped to take the gig. Helming the the ship in the title role is Oscar Winner Cate Blanchett, along with Sam Riley, Diaval of Disney’s recent Maleficent, as Bert the chimney sweep.
Needless to say, the word has set tongues wagging and many a finger to key board (consider this news story Exhibit A). Still, even at this early stage, there is cause for cooler heads to prevail. According to moviepilot.com “it is thought he will be drawing inspiration from the source material of P. L. Travers books rather than the Disney musical”. The decision is for the best. Julie Andrews superlative lightness of foot 50 years ago is now a measure of the shoes Blanchett is or would be tasked with filling.
Moreover, the P. L. Travers stories are tonally commensurate with the oeuvre known as Burton-esque (I use the passive here not knowing Burton’s opinion of the term). Even so, success is, of course, far from certain. What are your thoughts?
