Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance is the highly anticipated forthcoming release from Square Enix with fans all over the world eager to get their paws on the latest instalment in the series. For Japanese fans the wait is almost over with the confirmation of a release date, just over two months from now on the March 29th, players will get the chance to take on the role of Sora and Riku once more!
Based around the same timeline of events of Kingdom Hearts coded, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep and Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, Dream Drop Distance will follow Sora and Riku as they train to take on the mantle of Keyblade Master. It’s also been confirmed that the events of the game will be connected to Kingdom Hearts III which has yet to begin development.
The game will feature similiar play systems from the previous games, we’ve learned ‘Command Deck’ the base system from Birth by Sleep is back and aside from revamping old controls, developers are also introducing new gameplay elements including the ‘Drop Gauge’ as well as the ability to hunt and capture ‘Dream Eaters’ which empower Sora and Riku with unique abilities and boosts.
The story revolves around Sora and Riku as they are tasked by King Mickey to enter the Mark of Mastery Exam and complete their training as Keyblade Masters. To do so, the pair must find worlds that were spared from the Heartless attack and have now become disconnected and fallen into deep sleeps and are now being attacked by Dream Eaters. The pair will visit all new worlds including those of The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Tron: Legacy, they are both accompanied by good Dream Eaters known as ‘Spirits’ – Sora is followed by a Panda and Cat and Riku is allied with a Bat and Ram.
So while Japanese fans only have a few more weeks to wait, there has been no word of a release for Europe or America but we can keep waiting!
Oh and to sweeten the deal, Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance is being packaged with an all new special 3DS…isn’t it pretty?
