“What next, a PLAY-DOH FILM!?”, I exclaimed coming out of Battleship in 2012. I should’ve kept my mouth shut as I’ve evidently jinxed us all.
Deadline are reporting that Fox are on the verge of finalizing a deal with Hasbro to make the Play-Doh film. Joining My Little Pony, Transformers, Ouija, Battleship and G. I. Joe, Play-Doh will be directed by Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) with a screenplay by Jason Micallef, the report states.
Now, obviously The Lego Movie disproved the cynic in all of us that a film based entirely on a children’s toy could be so much more than just a cash-in, but none of the Hasbro based properties, except My Little Pony, have produced anything with anywhere the kind of impact or quality of The Lego Movie.
We’ll wait to see a taste of the screenplay, I guess!
