Death Stranding 2 Drops New Trailer Confirming June Release Date
We finally know when Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Appearing at a special PlayStation presentation at SXSW, Hideo Kojima revealed a new ten minute long trailer for Death Stranding 2. Needless to say, the trailer showcases a beautifully rendered world to explore, while also mixing in pure bonkers set pieces and storytelling.
Releasing June 26th, 2025, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach continues the story of Sam Porter Bridges, played by Norman Reedus, traversing and connecting the world in order to avoid extinction. Joined by several returning characters Fragile (Léa Seydoux), and Higgs (Troy Baker), they are joined by new characters, Tomorrow (Elle Fanning), Rainy (Shioli Kutsuna), and Neil (Luca Marinelli).
Locations look to include a wider range of environments, with dense forests, snowy landscapes, and urban environments teased alongside clips of traversal on foot, via road networks, ziplines and various vehicles. Some environmental interactions might also hinder your progress through areas, with hints of sand storms, lightning strikes and avalanches appearing in the trailer. I’m sure there will be plenty events that happen for story reasons, but hope they can be organically integrated into gameplay too.
You will also traverse the world via an aircraft called DHV Magellan, bringing you through the tar and Beaches of Death Stranding 2. Designed by the longstanding Kojima Productions artist Yoji Shinkawa, you may get some Metal Gear vibes from its design. The trailer even teases its transformation into a bipedal goliath.
Boss battles seem to include taking on huge, Lovecraftian inspired monsters, while combat against human enemies with guns, looks tight and snappy. This is all mixed in with epic cutscenes, seamlessly merging storytelling and gameplay, all built in the powerful Decima Engine.
Information on the editions was also revealed by the PlayStation blog, with a number of digital and collector’s editions available. Pre-orders go live on March 17th.
