Skyrim Collector’s Edition… Treasure galore!

The highly anticipated next installation to the Elder Scrolls series has a rather lavish collector’s edition on the way. Complete with an impressive statue this edition will include an art book, with over 200 pages of stunning, full colour artwork and a making-of DVD that will feature interviews with the Bethesda Game Studios team and the game itself, of course. Accompanying this is a price tag of $149.99 (US), €149.99 (Europe), £129.99 (UK) and A$199.99 (Australia).

“We always say that we make the games we want to play. We can also say we create the collector’s editions we’d want to own,” said Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing for Bethesda Softworks. “We all want one of these!”

Dark Souls delay… harder to release than to play?

Dark Souls, considered to be a spiritual successor of the notoriously difficult game ‘Demon’s Souls and expected to be the hardest game of the year, has been delayed. Scheduled to have been released on the 15th of September, the game is being delayed until the 22nd due to ‘various circumstances’, the company refusing to go into greater depth in their explanation than this.

600,000 and counting…

(He looks kinda cute doesn’t he?)

Xbox 360 Gamer Stallion83, real name Raymond Cox, has been on a mission for quite some time now. His goal? To be the first Xbox 360 owner to earn a gamer-score of one million. Already in the Guiness Book of World Records for highest gamer-score he also blogs about his race to reach one million. (Link to blog: http://www.1milliongamerscore.com/)

This summer marks him reaching 600,000, and to celebrate, he decided to make this video:

Grand Theft Looters

The riots that began in London have steadily branched out to other cities in the U.K, the rioting now spreading nationwide. Amidst the many buildings, homes and cars destroyed was a three-storey Sony warehouse in North London.  It is as of yet unknown as to how this might affect gamers in the U.K. and as to what kinds of delays in distribution should be expected.

“There will likely be some impact on deliveries,” said Sony’s Yoko Yasukochi. “We cannot determine the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage yet because it’s not possible to enter the building.”

There have been multiple eye witness accounts that claim looters made off with contents from the warehouse such as consoles, and DVD’s before it was set ablaze late Monday or early Tuesday morning.

The riots erupted after Metropolitan Police shot and killed a 29-year-old man named Mark Duggan. Controversy followed in regards to whether or not the act had been in self defence or not and whether Duggan was armed.

Whenever a violent crime happens, the media needs something to blame.  And what’s easier to blame than violence in video games? According to the ‘London Evening Standard’ the ongoing riots in London’s roots lie in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, thanks to a statement from a police officer in Tottenham.

“These are bad people who did this. Kids out of control. When I was young it was all Pacman and board games. Now they’re playing Grand Theft Auto and want to live it for themselves.”  A constable claimed. Residents in the Enfield area shared his views.

This is far from the first time a paper has endeavoured to place the blame for distressing events on a video game, nor is it the first time a Rockstar game has gotten such attention. Back in 2004 the game ‘Manhunt’ was said to have inspired the stabbing of a teenager in Leicester.

 Video Game Cheater almost killed…

Back in 2009 a twenty year old UK woman got into a heated argument with her boyfriend over a video game, one that resulted in her storming out, him following close behind. When her boyfriend stood in front of her car in an effort to prevent her from driving away she mowed him down, police claim. And when he staggered to his feet she spun around to hit him again.

Charles now suffers from memory loss, impaired concentration, mood swings, headaches and dizzy spells as a result, and after a year of denying involvement the woman has admitted to her crimes and pleaded guilty to dangerous driving. And the reason for all this? He cheated at a video game. What can we say? Love hurts.
