Jenova – Final Fantasy VII
She is the mother of one of the most diabolical villains in the world of video games. While not technically giving birth to Sephiroth, her DNA was injected into him while he was still being carried by his real birth mother Lucretia. Arriving on the planet 2,000 years prior to the events of the game, Jenova single-handedly brought the Cetra people to the brink of extinction before being sealed inside the Northern Crater.
Her DNA infused with Sephiroth granted him immense power as well as the urge to destroy the world… well you know what the old saying says… The family that plots to take down the entire world… stays together!
Brigid Tenenbaum – Bioshock
Ok honestly this is the last woman on our list who isn’t actually a mother! Bridget Tenenbaum was one of the greatest scientific minds of her time, discovered in a Nazi Prison Camp the 16yr old was put to work because of her abilities. She helped engineer ‘ADAM’ and was the ‘mother’ who created the Little Sisters, children who were altered and made collect ‘ADAM’. Recognising her sins and all that she had done wrong she tries desperately to save the girls and even returns to Rapture after escaping when she realises that someone else is now using her research to create more Little Sisters!
So Brigid isn’t perfect… but who is?! (Aside from us!)
Barbara Johnson – Bioshock 2
A second Bioshock character and she isn’t even part of the storyline! That’s right Barbara Johnson has snatched her place in the maternal list purely because of character background story. A housewife and mother living in Rapture, Barbara’s tale is a truly sad one to tell. She came to Rapture to change her life, find herself and for a while she was content but as the mundane tasks of her old routine on the surface began to become her routine once more on Rapture she turned to splicing. After her daughter Susie was almost killed by a Big Daddy she began splicing even more, unaware she had become addicted and that the ADAM she needed was now in short supply.
After letting some men into her home under the promise they would give her ADAM, they kidnapped Susie. Barbara has now completely lost touch with reality, believing the warzone in Rapture is actually her home and that the Big Daddy are in fact household pets.
What is it with mothers in Rapture?! We won’t even begin to mention Sofia Lamb!
Lirium – Lost Odyssey
Probably one of the most depressing video game scenes ever made, Lirium is the mother of Cooke and Mack, she is a minor character in terms of the whole game but she has a huge impact not only on all the other characters but even… on us!

Needless to say Lirium has to be one of the best moms ever! If you haven’t played Lost Odyssey and you really want to know why then you should pick up the game and all you have to do is clear the first disc!
Trainer Mom – Every Pokémon game ever!
What kind of Mom lets their 12yr old son/daughter leave home and wander the world capturing dangerous wild beasts?
THE BEST MOM EVER!
She has featured in all Pokémon RPGs to date, taking care of you, holding onto your extra cash and healing your injured Pokémon. In the Pokémon television series Mrs. Ketchum is not only a dutiful mother but she’s also a pretty decent Pokémon trainer. In Pokémon Black and White we’ve seen that not every parent is happy to let their child run off and travel the world, Bianca’s dad was none too pleased with his daughter (her Mom seemed to be cool with it though!).

Your Mom! – Real life
A very special mention has to go to all our moms but especially my own Mom! They have fed us, kept clothes on our backs and kissed our bruises better but more importantly they have supplied us with video games, comics, movies and so much more!
If you haven’t told your Mom that you love her today then put down the controller for two minutes and do it!
