Next Generation Portable – The NGP

The PSP2, now known by its codename; NGP (Next Generation Portable) , was unveiled and boy does it look pretty.

So what has it got to offer? This handheld will be sporting dual analog sticks, a front and rear camera, a touch-sensitive panel on the rear of the device, a larger touch screen than the PSP and will not be shipped with a UMD drive. It will also feature wifi and 3G connectivity. Oh, and it’s said its power rivals that of current home consoles. Not bad for a handheld console! But will it all be enough to allow it to compete with the 3DS’s novelty of 3D gaming? That remains to be seen.

Just a few of the big name franchises already confirming games for the device, set to be released later this year, include Uncharted, Killzone, Wipeout, Resistance, LittleBigPlanet and Call of Duty.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Trailer.

Following shortly after the discovery of a site domain registration hinting at the possibility of a direct sequel to Final Fantasy XIII we now have a teaser trailer to go with it. Final Fantasy XIII-2 is set to be hitting shelves later this year so unlike the original, released last year after 6 long years of work, we won’t have long to wait to see if the sequel can redeem its predecessor. With promises of improvements on where Final Fantasy XIII was lacking, namely the linearity and the battle system, things are looking good for this one.

We recommend you skip the trailer if you have yet to complete Final Fantasy XIII as the trailer begins where the game ends:

Kingdom Hearts 3DS: Dream Drop Distance

Just as you thought the hype about Kingdom Hearts was set to die down with Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep after being released and completed by many, the recent Sony event in Tokyo unveiled to us the next installation to the Kingdom Hearts universe; Dream Drop Distance.  Speculations and rumours have been running rampant across the internet since and while we cannot say for sure as to what it’s about it looks as though we will be able to play as both Sora and Riku this time around. The gameplay shown in the trailer looks promising and we’re simply dying to see it in 3D.

Modern Warfare 2 Scene linked to Russian Massacre.

Russian state run news network ‘Russia Today’ has suggested that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 might have influenced the recent deadly terrorist attack on Russia’s busiest airport which resulted in thirty five people being killed and more than 180 left injured.  Russian officials claim the attack was a suicide bombing.

The news station points out what they say are similarities between the recent attack and that in the scenes depicted in the ‘No Russian’ level of Modern Warfare 2, claiming that terrorist may even use the game for training.

“Indeed it is a trouble to look at the game and reality, the issue is we need to know if terrorists or extremists are using these videos or DVDs or games to basically apply the model’

Violence is often associated or linked to video-games as we’re all well aware. We’re willing to bet the same scene in question has similarities with many other attacks of the same nature, unfortunately it has come into question given the location of the attack and how soon after the games release it occurred. Whoever they lay the blame to it makes the attack no less devastating and changes nothing – we can only hope procedures are put into action to prevent such attacks in the future. If Modern Warfare 2 is as educational as the report claims in regards to attacks maybe they can use it to prevent them too.
