Brought to us by the developers over at Raven Software and published by Activision comes ‘Singularity’, a first person science fiction shooter game. ‘Singularity’ will allow the player to wield time itself as a weapon as well as an arsenal of high powered firearms. Announced two years ago by Activision, the game’s release date is fast approaching and we’re beginning to get the shakes over it – we haven’t been this excited about a first person shooter since we heard about the Bioshock 2 game (everyone loves Plasmids!). In anticipation we take a look at what you can expect from ‘Singularity’, in the hopes that it will relieve us of our itchy trigger fingers.

Plot

Singularity’ starts off during the height of the Cold War, Russia and America are at loggerheads and the entire world is preparing itself for what it fears could be another World War breakout. You as the main character find yourself on a remote island only known as ‘Katorga-12’ (Katorga is a punishment handed down in the Russian penal system, it involved hard labour and the wastelands of Siberia…we’re not just pretty faces here at the @rcade), on this island Russian scientists are conducting various experiments with ‘E99’. You take on the role of Nate Renko, a pilot who crashes on the island only to wake up in the year 2010, and must travel back using his new found ‘Time Manipulation Device’ (TMD) to the 1950’s and stop a madman from destroying the world.

Gameplay

Singularity’ is the second of Raven Software’s games based on the ‘Unreal Engine 3’ by Epic Games and we already know that the game is a first person science fiction shooter – that translates into awesome firearms, your typical pistols/shotguns/SMGs and so on and so forth usually with some other nifty weapons thrown in to spice things up. However the crucial part in the translation is ‘science fiction’, this usually means you get nifty powers to play with and ‘Singularity’ brings some serious new toys for us to play with. Having found your new TMD, you must travel back and forth in time to prevent any harm to the timeline and the rest of the world but what kind of science fiction hero would Nate Renko be if he didn’t gain some fancy new abilities. With the power of the TMD you will be able to:

Singularity Still

Alter Age – this allows Nate to affect the age of things around him. Got a blocked path? No problem just revert the timeline surrounding the path to a time when it wasn’t blocked! Enemies hiding behind crates? Just fast forward time and rot the wood and goodbye crates!
Deadlock – Conjure time energy and slow down or even stop everything trapped inside its wave. Stop bullets, slow down your attackers or stop them altogether and kill them with your weapons.
Impulse – Nothing like a blast from the past/present/future to send your enemies and objects flying across the screen.
Gravity – Somewhat like telekinesis except while you are holding the object it is also frozen – pretty useful when it comes to explosive devices
Chronolight – Fancy seeing what something looked like in the past? Well now you can with this handy little ability!

Singularity Still

Raven Software has also said that ‘Singularity’ will be a multiplayer game but there has been no other word on what types of games will be available to play online – we’re pretty sure you will have the usual: death matches, capture the flag and last man/time traveller standing.

Oh and we forgot to mention…Nate does not have regenerative health – meaning when you get damaged…you stay damaged until you find something to heal yourself with. How did the developers over at Raven Software know that the @rcade loves a challenge?

The game is getting its release 29th June, we can’t wait anymore we want to play Singularity now! But we can’t so we’ll just pacify ourselves with the trailer below!
