What’s it about?

“Splinter Cell Conviction” is the sixth game in UbiSoft’s “Splinter Cell” series and the fifth in the series for console release following on from “Splinter Cell Double Agent”. Taking on the role of Sam Fisher once more you will attempt to find answers and uncover the identities of those responsible for the death of your daughter. No Splinter Cell game is complete with terrorists, enigmas and cover-ups and Conviction has all that and more. Following on from the death of his daughter in “Double Agent”, three years have passed and Fisher has turned his back on the Third Echelon and the NSA in a desperate attempt to find answers surround her death and use all his knowledge of stealth combat and information gathering to find the truth.

How does it play?

Splinter Cell Conviction brings some new tricks to the table while continuing to rely on some of its old favourites. Of course like all the games before it, gameplay is focused on stealth and taking down your enemy as quickly as possible. With that in mind the developers have added, including the ‘Mark and Execute’ feature which allows Fisher to pick off his enemies a lot easier while not alerting others to his actions and the ‘Last Know Position’ which allows the player to easily get the advantage on a pursuing enemy. As well as these the player can blend into crowds to throw off pursuing enemies, interrogate characters in real-time and even use objects around them to help…extract…answers! When Ubisoft announced the sequel to ‘Double Agent’ they informed us that Conviction would be more appealing and accessible for a larger audience and overall they have achieved their aim. Progressing through Conviction will test your ability but not force you to cry because you can’t sneak by the baddies. Don’t expect a walk in the park but it’s easier than solving a Rubix cube.

Is it worth the buy or will I just rent it?

If you are a fan of stealth action games and decent plotlines then this is a game you will enjoy. Any hardcore Splinter Cell fan will be happy with Ubisofts latest creation and if you are new to the series and aren’t bothered with the details with what has happened in the series then you will definitely get a good kick out of this with enough challenges and action to keep your trigger finger stealthy self happy. The game is most definitely worth the price of buying if you are a fan of Splinter Cell but if you’re not then maybe you should just test it out and rent it before you buy it.
