Hollywood actress and producer Reece Witherspoon is making a movie about the origin story of popular toy line Barbie. Okay, put your pitchforks down, it’s not THAT kind of origin story!
THR report that Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea’s Pacific Standard has partnered with Bold Films to produce an adaptation of Robin Gerber’s Barbie and Ruth: The Story of the World’s Most Famous Doll and the Woman Who Created Her. The book tells the story of Ruth Gerber, the woman who would eventually create the iconic Barbie doll that would eventually hit the American market in 1959.
Witherspoon and Papandrea will co-produce for Pacific Standard while Michel Latvik will produce for Bold Films. The film does present a good leading opportunity for Witherspoon, but as yet nothing has been stated on who is being considered for the lead role.
