Capcom held a Resident Evil Showcase yesterday, which focused primarily on the upcoming release of Resident Evil Village. We got plenty of new content for the game, including a new trailer, a first look at gameplay, online modes and even a demo for PS5 users. The biggest news from the stream, was the confirmed release date of May 7th 2021. It will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, as well as for las-gen users on PS4 and Xbox One.

New Trailers

The showcase kicked off with a brand new trailer. We get a glimpse at the continued story of Ethan Winters, first set in motion in Resident Evil 7 biohazard. The latest entry combines pulse-pounding action with signature survival horror gameplay synonymous with the Resident Evil series.

Gameplay

You can purchase items from The Duke, who acts like Resident Evil 4’s Merchant. You will also avail of a new kick move, as well as the ability to block attacks from enemies. Ethan will face off against many threats such as fast-moving creatures that relentlessly stalk him and Lady Dimitrescu’s mysterious daughters who can transform into swarms of insects. Take a look at the gameplay, with narration from Producer Pete Fabiano.

News of a standalone demo was also revealed during the event. It is available exclusively to PlayStation 5 owners for now and you can download it immediately. It includes a separate story, protagonist and some puzzle elements, but doesn’t contain combat. For more on the demo, check out the PlayStation Blog

New Online Mode

Bundled in with Resident Evil Village, is the new online mode called Re:Verse. In Resident Evil Re:Verse you can test your skills against other players in four to six-person deathmatch battles. Play as beloved characters from the Resident Evil series and turn the tides of battle with powerful bioweapons.

Take part in 5-minute deathmatches, where the player with the most points wins! Use the weapons and items you find to take down even more powerful enemies!

A beta for the mode, will be made available from January 28th. You can apply to be part of the beta, by signing up by January 25th, via the Re:Verse website.
