January’s Nintendo Direct Mini Round-Up


A Nintendo Direct Mini was released on the 11th of January to the public, with a number of game updates and announcements revealed that are all Switch related. Below we detail all the news from the presentation individually or you can watch the whole fourteen minute Direct in full.

Full Direct

The World Ends with You

The World Ends with You comes to Nintendo Switch ten years after it’s original release on Nintendo DS. There will be new content with a new scenario. It will launch later this year.

Pokkén Tournament DX

New Pokémon Aegislash will be playable along with other Pokémon, such as Blastoise, become available via the Battle Pack paid DLC. There will be new avatar options too. Wave one of the new DLC will be available January 31st.

Kirby Star Allies

New abilities for Kirby and his friends, as well as 4 player co-op. Kirby Star Allies is available March 16th. The demo is now available too.

The Ultimate Version of Hyrule Warriors

The Ultimate Version of Hyrule Warriors is coming to Nintendo Switch! It brings all the released content from the WiiU and Nintendo DS versions, as well as new Zelda content from Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It releases in Spring 2018.

Mario Tennis Aces

A new Mario tennis game serves up a story mode. It also has the fun tennis gameplay Mario Tennis is known for. Mario Tennis Aces releases this Spring.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA you are stranded on a world, full of dangerous creatures. Build bases and battle your way through these monsters, in order to survive. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA comes to Nintendo Switch this Summer.

Super Mario Odyssey

Break Out the Balloons is a free update coming to the the recently released Super Mario Odyssey! You’ll be tasked with hiding or finding balloons hidden in the world of Odyssey. The update will also bring new costumes and in-game camera filters for taking snapshots. The update will release in February.

SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy

Face off in SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy with intense 2v2 fights, a huge array of customisation and loads of SNK alumnae. It releases on Switch this summer.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

With fan favorite character Donkey Kong joining the battle on Nintendo Switch’s Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, you’ll go bananas over this one! Catch DK and the new DLC pack will swing in this Spring.


PAYDAY 2 lets you play locally or invite up to three friends via CRIME.NET. Navigate menus on Switch screen and HD rumble lets you feel all of the action. There is a timed exclusive new character named Joy coming to the Switch version. Break into the world of PAYDAY 2 on February 27th.

Indie Titles

Explore a dark forest as you run, climb and glide through the mystic world in . releases February 16th

Climb the surface of Celeste Mountain and traverse your way past obstacles with dash moves. Discover more from Celeste Mountains, when Celeste releases January 25th.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

This cool game is back and funkier than ever! Go ape with the DK crew on Nintendo Switch and now included new character and mode with Funky Kong mode. Monkey around with DK and friends, when Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze releases May 4th.

Dark Souls: Remastered

The direct was topped off with a surprise announcement of Dark Souls: Remastered, which is heading to Nintendo Switch on May 25th 2018. Praise the sun!
