Usually when a TV show gets the axe, we don’t see the characters ever again. Fortunately, this hasn’t happened to John Constantine. Even though the Constantine NBC show was cancelled years ago, the character is still around. He has been in Arrow and also been in a DC animated movie as well.
John Constantine has a busy 2018 ahead of him. Matt Ryan is reprising the character in a short arc in Legends of Tomorrow and there’s also the animated series for CW Seed that premieres this year. There was a trailer some months ago and it looks amazing. Here it is in case you need a refresher:
On first look, it looks darker than the TV series, much closer to what Hellblazer was like. All in all, the NBC series was considerably watered down and we couldn’t even see John smoking. In a recent Television Critics Association panel, Peter Girardi, executive Vice President of Blue Ribbon Content, confirmed this animated adaptation is darker than the show, and that he wouldn’t let a small kid watch it.
Hopefully, this series does well enough. I really want a proper adaptation of the ‘Dangerous Habits’ Hellblazer arc.
