The premiere of Stranger Things season 2 is still six months away, the plot is still pretty unclear. The young cast, however, in an interview with Emmy Magazine revealed a few details about the following season.

Finn Wolfhard (Mike) had some choice words about the next season. “I think this season will be a lot [darker]. A lot more horror oriented. I think people are going to like it more than the first season.” This is hardly surprising, given how the Upside Down is barely explored in the first season. The precise nature of the Demogorgon, not to mention the question of Barb’s ultimate fate, remain a mystery.

Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin) elaborates on this, saying “The great thing about this season is you get to see insights into each character on their own. You’re going to see a lot more into the lives of how the characters are coping with what’s been going on…. They’re all very emotionally scarred. They feel alone because their best friend is back and he’s not acting like their best friend anymore. He’s changed.” Furthermore, Eleven has probably experienced some serious trauma as well. No matter how many eggos are left in a box, her current whereabouts and status remain to be seen. While the character will no doubt return, Eleven, like Mike, will likely have changed as a result of her experience.

Matarazzo emphasizes more focus on individual characters, meaning figures such as Hopper and Joyce will likely play a part again. The motives and purpose of the Department of Energy experiments will likely be fleshed out more this season. Paul Eisner will appear as Owens, an executive tasked with keeping the incident of the previous year under wraps. Given the ruthlessness of the department against innocent people like poor Benny in season 1, Owens may be the source of more horror in the coming season.

In any case, Stranger Things remains one of among Netflix’s most watched shows. Success for this show means a success for more original content across the board so here’s hoping for a great show!
